The driving force behind the company, which made its official debut in 2018, stems from a defining moment dating back to 2006 when Atelier Madre's CEO and founder, Manuel Dreesmann, stumbled upon an antique weeker bag during his visit to Bangkok. The item caught his immediate attention, leading him into a series of negotiations which ultimately resulted in the bag becoming his own.

Dreesmann expressed his love for it so strongly that fris and even strangers would inquire about where they could find something similar. Five years later, when he revisited Bangkok and returned to the same market, he was unable to locate the item despite an exhaustive search over two days. Driven by nostalgia of owning such a special find, Manuel decided to create his own workshop in 2015 after earning his master's degree in marketing and sales.

Atelier Madre's CEO and Founder, Manuel Dreesmann, has been honing leather craftsmanship skills since then.

After mastering the fundamentals of hand sewing and other essential business practices, Dreesmann launched an online platform where a curated selection of handmade minimalist leather products was offered. The brand began with leather sleeves for laptops priced between $134.15 to $187.81, which became its flagship product.

In 2021, Atelier Madre expanded its offerings by introducing wallets $41.85-$144.88, belts $101.95-$134.15, handbags $155.61 to $450.74 and more through an online store in the heart of Barcelona, El Born.

The response from customers exceeded expectations, with thousands visiting every day since its opening. Atelier Madre's concept and product range have proven popular enough that it may pave the way for international expansion plans but has yet to finalize specific detls on future locations.

Atelier Madre sources all leather from several tanneries located near Igualada, a city close to Barcelona, promoting the use of vegetable-tanned leather. This sustnable alternative involves natural tanning agents derived from trees and plants like oak and sumac which require an extensive period of time taking around months.

The key advantage of vegetable-tanned leather lies in its eco-friliness; no harmful chemicals are released into the environment during production unlike traditional tanning processes that use synthetic chemicals. Vegetable tanning is known for yielding high-quality, durable leather with a natural look and feel.
